Once again it seems that by the time i have processed enough photos for a blog post, i am too tired to write the bulk of the blog post. Terrible… in short, Atlantis launched and it was quite frankly, absolutely phenomenal. The sound, the power… seeing the amount of energy stored in a nuclear weapon being released in such a fashion is overwhelming. The thoughts that went through my head as Atlantis lifted off the pad were as follows:
“Oh that’s steam, that’s the beginning…. It’s not doing any moving yet though… oh wait there it goes, and here’s the NOISE, what a rumble. That massive thing is actualy moving, and it’s moving FAST. That flame is insane, it’s too bright to look at but look at it i must. This is amazing. It’s so fast.”
… and even these words do not fully describe the awe inspiring nature of the spectacle.
Here are some stills, my high speed video shot wider than these is safe and sound on my computer, but i lack the video editing software to get it online just yet. Will explore my options on that tomorrow.
You can get an idea of how loud it is here, people were actually talking/screaming/cheering the whole time it was going up, but for the most part it is all overpowered.
